I played capture the flag on WoW yesterday (only 1 hour of wait before the game could start!!).

Had lots of fun, but... well... it's not called "Sittin Around and Waitin' Craft" and sitting around and waiting is not what I want to do.

And I just remembered that I received a 50$ wall mart gift card for my b-day... hmm....

Ive played both games , and let me tell you WoW beats guildwars hands down. Your miss WoW when you switch , i did.

Well, I've played them both and they're quite different games...

GuildWars isn't even close to have the polish, finish and attention to details that World of Warcraft has. When you played WoW and get into GW, it feels nearly horrible.

But if you stop comparing them, you end up seeing that GW has its charms. Its far from an ugly game and it plays veeeeery differently from WoW.

The reason I don't miss Word of Warcraft, is that I never got to experience the social aspect of it. I solo. I soloed long. Eventually, the experience became empty for me. Combined with the frustration that game play skills have nearly no value over time played and experience amassed, I got frustrated and took a break from WoW.

What I've been told is that I should start a new player on a PvP server, pick the horde side, and find a nice little guild.

What I like about GuidWars (besides having no monthly fees) is that the focus is not on acquiring experience and equipment. I like that there is a storyline that you follow that can actually have an impact on the world around you - when you get out of the safe cities, you are in an instance and are only playing with friends.

Maxing out your char and equipment takes little over a month. You could even start a PvP char maxed out right from the start. So if someone beats me at the PvP games, it's because they are more skilled. Not because they have more free time to level up and find odd artifacts.

I like the skill system of GuildWars that forces you to pick 8 "spells" from your library of spells (I think there's about 400 spells that can be found in the game) before going out and playing. There's a depth of strategy in the picking and using of the skills that I did not find in WoW.

So basically, what I'm trying to say is that they may seem like similar games, I feel WoW and GW are in fact, quite different game that will end up appealing to different type of players.

Having said that, I'll probably revisit WoW some day as well. But for not, I don't miss it. I only miss the opportunity to say "hi" to one of my buddies once in a while.

I dont played WoW but i have guild wars. And i dont think a gonna like WoW cause you gotta pay monthly. And the graphics are fucking low. And i like guild wars :you can create your own guild with cape and guild hall, you can play PVP. but there is one thing i dont like on GW it can have 8 people on your team and that ( i dont suposse to say that about guildwars ) stinks!! And maybe my english stinks to cause im livin in Holland and im only 12 years old Cyall!

Right i brought them both , and played them both for a reasonable ammount of time to be able to judge.

Graphics wise : Personaly i dont think they can be judged , wow was never ment to look life like all the warcraft games have been cartoon-ish like in graphics. As for detail in graphics i would say its 50 / 50 just because wow doesnt need to run in a high res doesnt make the graphics at all bad. But i know not everyone feels the same way , so Guildwars has my vote for graphics.

Gameplay : Well , i played guildwars 1 - 20 in around a day and a half. And i was supprised at how much there was to do after level 20. However none of these realy helped in anyway. And i found the player vs player combat to become quite boring very quickly. One thing that strikes a question mark about guildwars is the back of the case. " Win battles with skill and not hours played". This made me think "Well im better off digging out counter strike". As for WoW, well 18 days in game ( real time ) i hit level 60 with my rogue. There are new instance's being devoleped in pacths and stuff so it keeps me playing alot. WoW also has goen towards the "item for power" part witch for me is what makes an rpg. Personaly WoW wins on the gameplay front hands down.

Story / lore : Now im not too involved with the storys in games i simply play em for fun. But when i opened my guildwars box and read the story line , i didnt think all that much of it. As for WoW the warcraft lore is the story , and the game pretty much invites you to make your own chapter as your character ( if you're into role playing , witch im not ).

Community : I'm not at all gonna even go into this , this is such a stupid way to judge a game. I found there to be mature and immature players on both.

Skill : Once again , if i wanted skill id play a first person shooter how ever wow requires you to think quick in some parts , as does guildwars. This is even.

Interface / controls : Once again depends , personly i found it annoying looking at my guildwars character he ran like he had a stick in his ass , and the no jump feature was a blow. And i dont feel im in full control of my character as i do in WoW. In my opnion WoW wins here too. ( WoW gives you the freedom to move nice and smoothly , and jump over things in the way , as in guildwars it will find a path way around). As for the interface's , cant realy comment , didnt have a problem with both games, how ever you can customise your WoW user interface you're self , or download others from various sites.

Skills / character development : Well , guildwars allows you to pick 2 class's per character , for instance one prim one could be a warrior and the sec one could be a ranger, then theres elite skills to find and what not, pretty cool idea i like it. WoW's charcter development is done with "talants" much like diablo2's skill tree system. Again i dont mind this at all. Skills , well i was dissapointed with the lack of cool looking skills in guildwars they were one of the reasons i stopped playing. Just looked to bland for my liking , i know people will dissagree but im giving my personal thoughts here. WoW has totaly unique skills for each class , such as i can stealth with a rogue to make enemys unable to see me. Again it is in my opnion wow that takes this section.

Future of both games : Well with the upcoming guildwars expansion having professions and a new areas to look at. I feel this totaly sucks , the game isnt a mmo and has no need for professions, this will make the game not as balanced i feel. WoW looks like its just keeping at it and adding new features and a new race , Bloodelf (for horde) and blizzard havnt told us the new alliance race.

My over choice of game : World of Warcraft however that doesnt mean to say guildwars is a bad game , its a great one.

i've played both, and i can say, i'm not as big a fan of wow as i am of guild wars, for several reasons. one, the montly fee issue. two, in guild wars, time played doesn't matter. it's all about how skilled you are. sure, you've put 10000000000000000000 hours into the game and i've only put 100, your crapy over whelm with force idea of winning isn't going to beat my shut down ranger. this isn't preasent in WOW. in wow, a lvl 20 is never going to beat a lvl 50, no matter how skilled they are.i just think that skill should be more important then time played

i have them both and i have played them both and all tho the look of guild wars is more realistic the grafics of wows are more cartonish but thay fit the game so it dosent bother me and in guild wars you can only join a party of 8 and in wow you can get in a group up to 40 and free roming worled way better interaction with other players. raiding citys and all that stuf. and for all the people who dont play because thay think it is boring ones you get to 60 and just try to get gear or do battle grounds make a twink it is so awsome. represent WSG raiders on bonechewer we own.

(i have joined a city raid with 2 full raid groups, and barely entered the city until we got massacred.) The most fun part of the game is gone, IMO. WoW is now only about farming 'honor', and farming items from huge dungeon raids. Basically, the more you farm, the better you are. The point is, 'hours farmed = how strong you are'. Which is a major reason i dislike WoW, and looking forward to GW. Thanks

I got both games, and i do gotta say that guildwars graphics is amazing and its way better than wow. but in terms of pvp, even guildwars can be outdone by wow. I dont noe if you guys got to lvl 60 and did 20 man raids or even got into an all our server war. guildwars can only got a small amount of people fighting at the same time. but in WoW, ive been in a fight that started with a 1 on 1 then 2 on 1 then next thing u noe there's 20 on 20, and as time passed there was 200 people fighting. the fight i was in lasted about 8 hours, well i stayed for 8 hours, it was going on b4 i even got there and it was still going on even after i left lol. in GW most fights i ben with my guild was max 10 peeps each side, in wow i ben tot he 40 vs 40 arathi basin battleground, and i've also participated in a 50 - 100 man town raid. town raids insist of EVERY player in the town fighting back against how much many people are raiding thier town. I think world of warcraft beats guildwars in both pvp and gameplay, but guildwars gives better strategy in terms of fighting.

Aley first of all you dont get dishonerable kills from killing guys 5 lvls lower than your own you only get them if you kill civilians. or at least on a PVP server i dont know how it varys from diferent servers. and i have to disagree city raids are hard but you dont need well over a 100 people and besides i also mean towns not just the main citys. PS a huge group of meany raids got Boldivard or what ever his name is, in storm wind the hardest boss out of all the citys for the allience down to half health thay dident kill him but i am allience and it was prity insane.

wow ownz it fgs i have bith games in guildwars u can kill stuff and thats bout it and it isnt a really roleplayin game but in wow each race has there owb town which is cool and u can fight each other in the main game instead iof needin to battle in pvp all the time and there is skills that make u money instead of goin out killin sstuff for money all the time and all the missions r same kill stuff wow some missions culd be to explore caves and stuff

I tried both. I prefer WoW due to my opsession with its universe. WoW has more people in it, is larger and I find it to be more fun as your party is not limited to 8 people. However there will always be people playing Gw as it is free and some people just hate to be around others, as you are constantly in Wow. If you are looking for a great visual experience and are into strategic fighting and soloing/small groups, play GW. But if you want a more useful interface, a larger community, various content, a more fun game etc you should go for WoW. As I have.

Well, I have WoW and Guild Wars--and Guild Wars WOULD be a great game, but it just seems so...pathetic compared to WoW. In my opinion the GW graphics r more realistic, but more..cheesey? I love WoW's PvP and Battlegrounds--now the wait times of 1 hour are over. I get in to 1 in 10 seconds. I also think WoW requires more skill to play. I just can't stand how everywhere is intanced in Guild Wars. I don't know why they did that. And WoW actually does have a storyline, you just have to play WarcraftIII to know what it is lol. I love WoW's factions too. And BTW you dont get a dishonorerable kill if you kill some1 5 levels under you. I don't know why you think that TO=P (Although i don't really know much about Guild Wars, I got bored with it at level 3 or 4..DO they have instances in GW like they do in WoW? I love WoW's instances, 'specially the 40 man ones)

- GW you learn skills but can only take 8 out of town with you. I guess you forget them or something?
- WoW you learn skills and actually get to use them all.

- GW your character is stuck to the ground and cannot leave the linear path on the map. Game is extremly linear.
- WoW your character can jump (like most games) and you can go anywhere on the map and aren't restricted to staying on the linear path.

- GW quests are extremly grinding.
- WoW quests are actually fun.

- GW has no player crafting system
- WoW has an amazing crafting system in which players can craft potions, armor, weapons, enchant items.

- GW load screen, load screen and more load screens!
- WoW seemless world. The only time you get a load screen is when you start an instance.

- GW not a real MMORPG. You can only play with 8 people
- WoW you can actually play with hundreds of people

- GW if you want to sell something you have to sit in town and spam your item in the chat window
- WoW has a very nice Auction system called the auction house where players can sell items unattended. No need to waste time spamming the chat windows to sell an item.

- GW to sell an item you have to type out it's stats or show the buyer the item in the trade window.
- WoW you can ctrl click an item to link it to the trade window allowing potential buyers to see the item and even try it on.

- GW no in game mail system
- WoW every inn has a mailbox where you can send and receive mail. You can even send items COD to other players!

- GW Wearable armor does not drop as loot from monsters
- WoW monsters actually drop wearable armor.

- GW although you see potentially ridable beasts in the game you cannot get a mount.
- WoW players can purchase rideable mounts.

Final thoughts

If you've played Diablo or Dungeon Siege then you've played GW. It plays more like a multiplayer game than a MMORPG.

WoW is the best MMORPG avaialble.

There's a reason GW is free. No one in their right mind would pay for it!
